Sorry if this has been done to death but I had a condom split today for the first time and am wondering is there a certain period of time I should wait before getting checked? What's the situation with GUM clinics at the moment?

Phone your local one for advice on how long to wait and how to get tested then you have it from the horse's mouth. Different parts of the country will have different ways of operating.

I think the usual advice is to wait 2 weeks as that's the window for gonorrhea (but best to check with the medics) I either get tested privately or use the SHL home test kit service. Good luck, hope it's all clear!

in my area, if you don't have any symptoms, the NHS won't see you in person but will send a self testing kit. I ordered it online on a monday, got it on Tuesday, did the test (very easy to do) and posted it back on tuesday, they confirmed they got it on wednesday and thursday morning i got a "all clear" text. Very quick and very easy.

In the blurb that comes with it, it did say that some STI's can take 3 weeks to come out to be picked up in a test so you should probably wait 3 weeks before being tested to be sure - and avoid unprotected sex and owo in the next 3 weeks.

You have to wait 12 weeks between ordering online tests.
But as others have said if you have symptoms the gum clinic will see you .

This ^^^ also getting tested now may not be a bad thing, it'll indicate whether you were clear a few weeks ago ie prior to the split. But the GUM clinic will give the best advice.

In my area if you don't want the self test kit delivered to your home address you can collect it from the local NHS STI clinic. Results by text.

Offline Twotall

I went to get tested a few months back after a condom came off during a vigorous session. Results all clear and they told me 6 weeks was the best timing for blood tests.

Thank you all. I think a self test kit would be ideal if I can indeed pick it up from a local clinic. Don't want it delivered to my house and the wife opening it

As Daviemac says check the local situation with the clinic. If you are going to collect why not get the folks there to conduct all the tests and save any concerns/difficulties with fucking it up inadvertently?

I've never had a condom break in civvy or punting life. Do you notice? Is there a sudden ping or rip? Do both parties realise quickly enough?

Also is there any ettiquette involved with the SP at this point? Is it legit to ask when she was last tested? Is it legit for them to ask you? Should you send through your results?

in some areas (eg Dorset) they will not do that - its self testing only unless you have  STI symptoms.

Or tell her you have caught your bellend in your zip and it's gonna be sore for a couple of weeks while it heals...

On occasions it's happened to me with SP, neither of us noticed until withdrawal.
Regarding etiquette, as far as I'm concerned I'd tell them I'm vasectomised and fire blanks, and possibly mention out of courtesy if I'd had a recent test.
I certainly wouldn't ask about their testing history unless you're prepared for some flak.
They can be rather sensitive to you asking.
That's surely up to her to look after her own health.
In my experience they usually just have a gob on because they've got a gooey fanny.
......but of course, everyone's different.

When I had a condom break I had an emergency appointment where a nurse discussed in detail what happened, deciding there and then not to prescribe me PEP, although it later emerged that the escort was a secret barebacker so that could have changed things for me.

I did have an STI check the next day but that soon after sex it was only going to serve as peace of mind for the escort that I was clean. I then had to go back after 3 months to check again for HIV and then 6 months to check for some blood disease that you can get through sex.

All this happened before covid. Since then it's been home testing kits which is a pain for getting the blood.

Best bet is call your local GUM and be honest with them. They won't judge you or treat you like a criminal.

I did notice a sudden slightly different (better) feeling while banging away and the thought did cross my mind. As we were in doggy I did a few long slow thrusts so I could have a look and everything looked fine. I was expecting to see half a condom. When I pulled out I noticed that the Johnny had broken and rolled right up to the base of my dick. Live and learn

One thing to be aware of is that baby oil and similar doesn't mix with condoms, and will cause the latex to break down.
Water based lubricants, such as KY jelly etc are the ones to use.

I thought most people knew this, but I was with a wg a while ago who wasn't aware of this.

Good advice.

I had this with a seeking girl once, I had been massaging her and transitioned into fucking.  We didn’t realise that this had destroyed the condom until I had left a particularly large creampie inside her. I kinda knew in the back of my mind this was a risk but had never had it happen before.

I would suggest though that the OP shouldn’t stress too much about it. A WG that is getting regularly screened and using condoms is less likely to give you something than a civvy.

I have just had my results back from a postal test (sh.uk).
All negative.  However they report the period of when to wait from potential exposure to testing for the various infections. Hope this helps, but I'd thoroughly suggest a call to the gum clinic.

Your test results are listed below for each sample and test type, along with additional information and next steps.

Negative
Chlamydia (Urine Sample)
Your sample tested negative for Chlamydia. The test may not be accurate if you have been infected with Chlamydia recently i.e. within the last 2 weeks.

HIV (Finger-prick Serum Sample)
We did not detect HIV in your sample. The test may not detect infection from a recent risk, but is highly accurate if performed 4 weeks after the last risk and almost 100% after 8 weeks.

Negative
Syphilis (Finger-prick Serum Sample)
We did not detect Syphilis in your blood sample. The test may not be accurate if you have been infected with syphilis recently i.e. within the last 12 weeks.

Negative
Hepatitis C (Finger-prick Serum Sample)
We did not detect Hepatitis C in your blood sample. The test may not be accurate if you have been infected with Hepatitis C recently: Hepatitis C will be detected in 90% of infected individuals who test three or more months following their last risk (such as unprotected sex), but on some occasions it can take up to nine months before it can be detected.

Good to know, thank you. Had a couple of splits over the last 5 years. It's just part of the game and you carry on.
