No worries. Glad you enjoyed it. I thought the lead actress was very good. Clearly committed to it.
I went for a shaw brothers classic today. Flying guillotine 2. Not as good as the first one but still ok.

I've never really fancied The Flying Guillotine movies, I think due to the Video/DVD covers I've seen of them and they didn't really appeal to me. My ignorance if I've missed anything. Is the first movie worth checking out?

Meanwhile, I mentioned this before, but it's caught my attention again;

She’s a bad ass no doubt. I’d like to see another season of it but not sure where it could go to.
The first flying guillotine movie is much better I think. Faster paced.
Thanks for attaching the Buddhist fist. I’ll give that a watch when I’m off next.

Variety (1983). Obscure low budget indie from the early eighties, one critic described it as a feminist "Vertigo", Hitchcock would surely have been baffled by the comparison. Young woman takes a job selling tickets in a porn theatre on Times Square, this brings out the voyeur in her. Director Bette Gordon's film is shot in the dirty, gritty fashion reminiscent of that era, an ugly beauty that gets under your skin. Unfortunately the rest of the film falters, the pacing is suspect and the storyline doesn't always make sense.  C

Sugar Daddy (2020). Darren, an aspiring singer/songwriter takes a job as a professional dater (accompanying men to events for companionship, no sex though) to pay the bills. One of the brightest Canadian films I've come across in many a year, hyper cool filmmaking that has the courage of its convictions, how much would you sacrifice in pursuit of your dreams. Kelly McCormack is rather magnificent as the lead character, making you empathize with a woman who in all honesty is pretty much unlikeable, a rare feat in itself.  A-

Mixed reviews and probably a bit 'marmite', but I enjoyed the series. Acting good within a proposterous plot.

Have to say the first season was very disappointing so hopefully season 2 will be a lot better.

What happened to Monday.  10/10 Netflix Quite possibly the best thing I've seen in a long time.  Dystopian story line, Willian Defoe at his finest.  Noomi Rapace plays all 7 sisters (which funnily enough was also a title that the film released under).  I can see this becoming a reality mores the pity, spin the clock forward 100 years and it probably will.  Tories will still be in power and have implimented this, obviously..

Student Services (2010). Midway through Student Services, the lead character Laura whines that she's not a whore, but in fact she is, turning tricks to fund her way through university. What could have been an interesting take on student prostitution fails to take off as she meets a variety of sleazy punters who have cum straight from the stereotypes casting couch, Laura's character isn't terribly well developed either (nice chebs though).

Emmanuelle Bercot's character study might appeal to a certain audience (the chattering classes sniggering at our nasty hobby), but for seasoned punters it's all a bit mundane, even laughable at times. Deborah Francois is less than convincing as the sex worker, but that's the main problem with this film, it's just never really believable.  D

The original " Road House" film starring the late Patrick Swayze is on 5Star Channel tonight 9pm. Not seen the re make with Jake Gyllenhaal so can't compare the two but it would have to go some to beat the original.

Also on tonight at 9pm on  5Action is one of Clint Eastwoods finest westerns "Unforgiven" with probably my all time favourite actor Gene Hackman

Hackman was never underrated, admittedly fame arrived late in his case, he was just past forty when The French Connection came out in 1971. A versatile performer who pretty much excelled in most genres of film, not just being a "tough guy" as a lot of people perceive him to be. His performance in Coppola's The Conversation is one of the most memorable I can think of, not many actors could have pulled it off back then, let alone now.

The Fall Guy- cinema general release

Story about stuntman Colt Seavers ( Ryan Gosslin) and film director Jody Moreno
( The lovely Emily Blunt) . Enjoyable film without giving too much of the plot away Gosslin plays stuntman Colt seavers who has to locate the missing actor who he doubles for in his ex girlfriends film. As expected in a film about a stuntman there is plenty of action and stunts. For older members who remember the 80's tv series of the same name starring Lee Majors this is nothing like the tv series . If you see it at the cinema stay till after the credits roll at the end as there is a sequence in which the original Colt Seavers ( Lee Majors has a brief cameo role. A nice nod to the original series. I'd give it a  7.5 out of 10.

At the end of the original episodes I'm sure Colt would be in the bath smoking a cigar? :hi:

No , it bears little resemblance to the original series apart from the characters name. It does have Lee Majors making a brief cameo appearance as a police officer right at the end so stay until after some of the credits have rolled. Nice having Emily Blunt in it though,  one of my favourite actresses. 😍

I've seen student services if I remember rightly it is the one were a money counter appears on screen when she buys a sandwich etc. Or was that Slovenian Call Girl. I would put it at C maybe B- grade if I was generous, Student Services is genuinely sound film making if by the numbers.

This week:
Creatures World Forgot (18, Arrow BR)
Late Hammer (Horror) film. It's their take on million years BC. Uses tribalism rather than dinosaurs. Actually an ok film, despite being considered one of hammer's worst. It's dull in places. I think the 18 cert is a bit harsh most likely pushed up by a very brief attempted sexual assault.

Imprint (18)
Takashi Miikes contribution to masters of horror TV series. Sadly has the characters speaking English rather than being subtitled which makes it jarring as the pronunciation is off and some actors look uncomfortable. Sound and glossy with all the Miike trademarks of jarring violence mixed with mundanity. I felt underwhelmed.

No.

Just had a quick look to see what it’s about, looks like something I’d really enjoy, especially given it’s got Barbara Flynn in, who I used to lust after.

But initial trawl through services I subscribe to, suggest I can’t get it easily, alas.

The Aura (2005). A taxidermist suffering from epilepsy ends up taking part in a heist on an armoured van. Dark, fairly downbeat Argentinian neo noir that might be a bit slow for some, but you can't deny the bristling atmosphere The Aura produces. Ricardo Darin is quietly impressive as the unlikely deadpan anti hero. B+

Exile (2020). Xhafer, a Kosovan feels he is being bullied and discriminated against at his German workplace. Multi layered social drama, with microagression (imaginary or not) at its centre. Intelligent, thought provoking cinema from director Visar Morina, definitely recommended.  A-
