if you pick your partner to be a 25 year old female sex worker, she has a 12% chance of having HIV, 3% chance of having HPV (6 or 11), 13% chance of having HPV (16 or 18), 2% chance of having chlamydia, 1% chance of having gonorrhoea, 100% chance of herpes (type 1) and 80% chance of herpes (type 2)

Can this be right?

I obviously have no way of knowing but 12% HIV sounds completely fucking wrong.  Even if you count the many new barebacking Romanian prossies.

Call me sceptical if you wish, but given that site is covered in adverts for a site called "HIV test USA" it's just possible that they have a motive for massaging the figures a little... and as there's no mention of the source of their data, then it could just be made up.

But if you look at your risk of infection if you have vaginal sex with a sex worker with HIV, without a condom, it quotes your probability of infection as being about 1 in 3000, so in that respect it isn't scaring you into getting tested.

This is the key point. Without references and data sources the calculator is bollocks.

That said, with a little more effort, they do link to this page:

Still, I think 12% is too high, but could be wrong  :unknown:

Load of shite

If you want to limit ya chances, dont do owo and always cover up

Not rocket science

Offline Tafffie

12% might be right, if you include 25 year old escorts from India, Africa and Indonesia, where HIV infection rates in sex workers can be extremely high.

Just a guess though. As said above, without medically sourced statistics, the numbers could be utter rubbish.

Offline Stiltskin

Sounds like the stats for South Africa.

I don't have any way to read all the journals they've posted links to in their references section but I suspect the figure of 12% for HIV rate is made up in order to scare people into paying them for an HIV test (as others have said).

But we can do our own research.  E.g.

Levels of HIV infection seem to be low (less than 1%) amongst sex workers who do not inject drugs.

Evidence from detailed research in London, for example, has shown that women sex workers are at a slightly increased risk of STI and HIV when compared with population rates, but are generally at lower risk of STI/HIV than other women attending genitourinary medicine clinics.
.  Lots of other relevant documents on this site if anyone has the time to search External Link/Members Only

and finally, keep an eye on this study which is still in progress, to get the most accurate measurement.

This study will provide the first estimate of HIV and STI prevalence and risk among sex workers [in UK].

The figures look the wrong way around to me, 12% for HIV seems way too high. Like others have said, what country are we talking about here ?

I could knock up a website and write an article entitled "Chillout, You'll NEVER get AIDS from fucking a whore", if it helps guys, it'd be as valid as the shite on that site.

It's an affiliate site he's selling DIY AIDS tests LOL, gimmie a fucking break

Look out for these statistics as a future quotation on a prossie's blog. As I've said before we take the risks and decide whether it is worth it, I don't do bareback, but do OWO and RO on prossies, some men don't, but we don't need any ammunition for prossies to deny more services.

The highest risk for hiv is receptive unprotected anal sex with ejaculation. However, the risk for this is only around 0.11% from a document I saw in one of those same day hiv test clinics which they showed me when I was having a panic a few years back

Which is also pointless as you can get it free at your local STD clinic - which if you are reading this forum and this is your hobby then you should be going there for a regular check up anyway.

100% have type 1 herpes...??? How the hell would they be able to make that assumption?

It can't possibly be right.

Why? Because in order to accurately compile figures to indicate percentages, you'd have to round up every single tart in the land and then test them, all on the same day, for everything.

Without doing that, these figures mean literally nothing at all, and are mere guesswork.

So in sex workers HIV rate is higher than Chlamydia or gonorrhoea.  Again 100% have Herpes type 1.  I can refute that as have paid to be tested for both and my system was clear of both types of Herpes (I have never once had a cold sore) and I am a sex worker so that ruins the 100% figure.   I also know a hell of a lot of girls who have contracted Chlamydia in this job, normally of the throat yet none who have HIV.  Chlamydia is much easier spread than HIV so that alone would mean the risk would be higher yet that statement give HIV a 6times higher rate.
It is also been stated many times by health officials that just 50% of everyone who has had sex has contracted some form of HPV.
The four forms listed above are the mainly talked about forms as they all cause warts but a couple of them cause cancer.  What about the other 36 types that cause genital warts.  Why are there no percentages for them.  I should imagine the rate to be around 20- 25% when it comes to A HPV strand that causes warts as these are by skin to skin contact and condoms don't stop it and many men get the but think they re normal growths as start like a very small bump much like you often see on a penis.

There is no possible way even if every gum clinic in the country got together to get accurate results as a large percentage of prossies wont tell the gum clinic they get paid for sex as they don't want to be judged, this also means of course they wont be getting throat swabs either as these are rarely offered to those who don't participate in paid sex so again results would be skewed as loads with an infection of the throat wont even know.

Basically you have to look at it as if you have a 50% chance of catching all of the above with every person you see and protect yourself accordingly..  I assume every client I see may well have something or more than one thing and I protect myself and only take risks that are acceptable to me

Any figures/stats are at best guesses because at least some if not many women wouldnt say they were WGs to the GUM staff. And thats not including those that dont even go to the GUM of course.

My advice is dont believe any stats as regards punting, its a secretive job and pastime to many people so real factual info simply isnt available in reality.

I punt on a risk to reward basis so for me OWO is essential but i wouldnt do BB.

If you go into any major town/city on a weekend night, you will see countless girls out on nights out. I would bet I have less chance of catching a STI from a WG than from one of these girls. Before Xmas I went to a club and a girl asked if I wanted to shag her in the toilets, I said no as I didnt bring any comdoms out with me(in truth I was after her friend), she said "its ok, I have a cap, you wont get me pregnant" :dash: I worry about catching a STI from her, not getting her pregnant.
