Does anyone know if you can you buy Sildenafil (or alternative) over the counter in Spain? I do not have a prescription for it so presume not allowed to take it with me, would not want the possible questions at customs in front of family anyway!

I'm not sure about now, Spain have tightened up a little.

But certainly in years gone by, all sorts of medication was available over the counter, for example antibiotics: you could just buy them, and the tablets would normally be twice the strength of ones you'd get in the UK.

Even recently, I had a burgeoning chest infection over there a couple of winters ago and managed to persuade the pharmacist to just sell me some after he'd said I really should see a doctor first.

Neither Sildenafil  or Tadalafil on on the UK government’s “controlled drugs list”, so you should be able to take your own stash with you without any problems. Do make sure it is in its original packaging though, with the pharmacy label. This will show that it is a genuine medication and will have the real name of the tablets, not just Viagra etc.  And only take a small amount - there were a couple of major drug smuggling busts involving lots of Kgs of Cialis, Viagra and Kamagra in Majorca a year or two ago.

As far as I know, legally it is prescription only in Spain, but there is a black market for it at stupid prices 20 to 30 Euros for a 4 pack.

If you wanted to check before hand, you could drop a line to their Embassy?  Probably overkill though.

The Spanish Ambassador might not take too kindly to an email suggesting he might be suffering from erectile dysfunction and know about Viagra.

You know what these Spanish macho types are like  :D

I once had a very good time with a Spanish civvy to cut a long story short she was a student here and did have a boyfriend at home and she was missing him and the sex that went with it! I was i suppose became a sub for her man not that i was complaining:)

But what i could  never understand was her orgasmic comments like;

"you are like the bull!"  "you are so large like ze bull"

Now not being one to boast i thought i'm pretty average?, but on a scale of things i often wondered just how not that well hung her poor old bloke in absentia, Peter was???

Came very close her staying here at one point, great girl and a fantastic fuck:)

Information that is about 3 years old as I have not recently visited Spain.
Pharmacists there have more flexibility in writing prescriptions than in the UK, so, if you are polite and have a persuasive argument (e.g. my wife and I are on holiday and I have just discovered I left my Cialis at home, or possibly have the empty box from your previous UK prescription) , you can buy Tadalofil (I bought Cialis at the time) without a problem.  I would presume that the same applies to Viagra. Price was about 10% lower than the UK though the Euro has strengthened against the £ in the meantime.

I used to regularly stock up in Spain during summer hols. It was on the south coast close to Malaga so np problem with language. I was able to buy generic sildenafil and Cialis and generic Taladifil. If they didnt have what I wanted in pill size or brand then it could be sourced /ordered and in the pharmacy within 24hrs. I had no problem in different pharmacys. I didn't notice much difference between UK prices. There wasn't any bargains but it was as simple as buying aspirin. Last time was 12 months ago ....didn't make it over this year :(

That's good advice, Waterhouse; but I'd like to suggest that it would do no harm to take the tear-off part of your last  prescription - almost always stapled to the paper bag your medicine comes in - in your hand luggage when you fly from the U.K.

Or have I been watching too many of those 'getting through customs at the airport' TV programmes during lockdown?

Or have I been watching too many of those 'getting through customs at the airport' TV programmes during lockdown?

They might be visible in the luggage scanner, but if you remove any foil, how will they affect the walk-through if in your pocket?  I think I took some abroad in my wallet, which went through the scanner anyway, still in the foil pack from the dodgy sex-shop indian supplier.

But that is not customs, it is security going airside.  Since when did customs do minute random checks on internal Europe flights on arrival in Spain?

Might look in your suitcase but I have a home away and travel light.

I can tell you that the small packs of Centrum Men50+ contain ovoid blue pills.  Paler and not quite the same shape, but still ...

The short answer to that is, "I don't know if they do." I haven't flown outside the UK for four years.

The longer answer is that - I don't know if it's because of the pandemic, or my age; or both! - but in recent times, I've been feeling more paranoid than I ever remember feeling.

And I've been watching TV programmes during lockdown that I wouldn't normally watch; including series from four or five English-speaking countries about the work of their Customs Officers and Immigration Officers at airports. After a while, they all merge into one and - I couldn't tell you which countries are involved - but I've seen travellers arriving from one country with prescription drugs from their home country - and no, I can't remember which drugs they were - which are prohibited in the country they've just arrived in without evidence of a prescription. So the drugs have been confiscated and destroyed.

Which left me making a mental note that if I ever achieve my ambition to visit the FKK Clubs, it'll be after we've left the EU so, just to be on the safe side, I'd make sure I have the copy of my prescription for Tadalafil with me so that I don't 'lose' them.

Which I thought I'd pass on.

Smuggle them by removing the identfying packaging or disguising them as vitamins.

Quality advice...

Any meds or supps, prescription or otherwise are best packed in hand luggage as a general rule of thumb.  I use to travel to Seattle a couple of times a year and anything I wanted or needed to take, I always put in hand luggage. Never had any problems or hold ups either side of the borders.

You can still get all sorts of drugs over the counter in Spain, I had an eye infection and was given some sort of antibiotic eye drops after a brief chat with the chemist, my mate travels to Spain regularly and brings back some sort of over the counter indigestion pills that he takes before he has a big night out, the same pills are prescription only here. I wouldn't worry about it too much, put the pills in paracetamol or Imodium box, or whatever fits, you may get your hand luggage randomly searched but they aren't emptying your stowed suitcase if one packet of pills shows up on the X-ray.

Just as a general note, l always (now) pack my prescription meds in my carry-on bag, ever since l arrived in Tobago, and my suitcase followed on three days later - with my blood pressure tabs in it.

I also do this with the other medications I and OH take when traveling the one thing that you should do ALWAYS KEEP ORGINAL BOX which usally has your name on ie when Ive had silden Tad and speedra from various online pharm`s and ASDA it always had my real name on .....About 20 years ago I was with a now ex partner who got heavy period pains and took a great deal of Ibropro (She had just put foil packets in purse as many do)... we got stopped at Dalan entry airport in Turkey on busy Thompsons Hol ...Thankfully a very calm and well mannared young Turkish guy was able to sort out what was a worrying stop for us... I expect he did this allday long when the charter flights arrived ...I just kept thinking Midnight Express  :scare:

I looked online and could not find much info so though someone on here must have given it a go, it's not a holiday without some action! Anyway, I will report back when I return. Thanks to all who have offered advice.
