I wanted to test for hiv as part of my regular check up  but i couln't find the time to do it in this period of time.
So i looked online to buy a self testing kit and i decided to buy it from amazon.
The advantage of getting it from amazon is that it can be delivered to a pick up point (amazon locker) and not to your own address.
The test itself it's very easy and it gave me a negative results within a few minutes.
I would recommend it if you are too busy to get it done from the local GUM clinic or if you are fed up to hear a nurse asking you 20000 questions about your sexual habits.
I'm not adding any links (i m not sure if that is allowed) but you can find it easily on amazon.
The big negative is the price. I paid 35 pounds. It should be definitely cheaper. :hi:

It sounds as reliable as a Romanian pro$$ies likes list.

Why? It is an antibody test with a period window of three months. You can buy it directly from the seller or from amazon. It is made in UK.
In many countries in Europe these kind of tests are also available in pharmacy. Not in uk.

This test is made for people who don't want/don't have a chance to go to NHS. They are approved and reliable.

It may or may not be reliable ----------------- personally I would want the peace of mind of being seen by professionals for such an important test.    :hi:

I understand but the 'professional' would stick in your finger the same piece of kit and wait for the result.
I can do it myself at home.

Lol I thought the leavers had an obsessive aversion to anyone who was considered as an expert or professional in their fields  :wackogirl:

Jokes apart...this is a very good article about HIV self testing kits and their reliability. They are extremely reliable. External Link/Members Only.

A qualified medical practioner is slightly different to cunts who try to predict the state of the economy in five years time, especially when they work for thieving bastards like Goldman Sachs.

it's not a DIY :dash: :dash: It is the same shit you get at your local GUM clinic.

The antibody tests are very good but when you have a proper test the blood they take is sent to the lab for a full PCR test. This will always be the most accurate.

I will always go to the GUM knowing I am dealing with a qualified medical professional rather than buy something like this. I wouldn't trust it to be accurate however much it might be rated by others.

I'm pretty sure any HIV test, whether home-based or at a clinic is only accurate for 3 or more months ago. So if I last punted in late August or early September it'd likely show up if I'd caught HIV,  but not if I'd been exposed to it, say, just last week.

I guess the downside there is, you could well have caught it three months ago and missed the chance to treat it immediately with PEP if you were unawares. Hopefully one day they'll have a test that shows it immediately and not backdated .

For punters not wanting to go to the local GUM then better idea to go to a private medical testing centre.  More discrete / quicker.  Plus re HIV there are different testing options.  Only know coz i've had a few over the years as a routine precaution.  From banging civvies which at some point ends up going in 'commando' etc.   And the staff can give you the best advice.  Trying to get the same off the interweb rarely produces the most reliable info

You can get the HIV test for free at : External Link/Members Only

They do a proper blood test ...very discrete ...fits through the letterbox, and you can fit the return sample through the letterbox

I am happy that this is causing a little debate which is positive.
I am not surprised that there are some people who can't cope with the progress of society. They will be horrified when the HIV test is made available off the shelf at Boots.

Well you were maybe hoping for a pat on the dick for knowing your way round amazon's search box.
As above,  you'll get some degree of certainty with a home test kit but it isn't the same as a PCR or ELISA.  I'm guessing you've got a lateral flow test.  To the best of my knowledge they do this for a quick result in a clinic then follow up with a lab based test for confirmation.

I checked on UKPunting about this matter. I couln't find anything about it therefore i decide to share it.
I don't have interest on this. Get tested wherever you want.
I understand there are many doctors and specialist among us.

You clearly find the time to fuck pro$$ies ---------------- shame you can't spare the time to visit the GUM clinic.

Get yourself to a clinic instead, bound to be a lot more reliable.

Yes,  it's worth sharing,  but don't get agitated when people suggest it might not be reliable.  And yes I am an expert,  I work in immunology.  :hi:

This test is reliable as much as the same type available at the GUM believe it or not.
It is legal and approved by the Government.
One day it will be available at the pharmacies. That is the future.
This post may help someone to get tested. Some of your comments don't.

It really doesn't help anyone to suggest they should rely on a test that they don't have all the facts about. Try putting your butthurt to one side and see what people are saying.

It really doesn't help anybody to denied the evidence.

The self test is legal and approved by the Government because it works.
This is a fact.

Please tell us where you work 'Mr Doctor Immunology' so we can avoid that hospital.

I've used this service fairly recently and it was excellent.

I live in an area where testing isn't funded and usually isn't free, but I read somewhere that they were offering them free if you were in an at risk group. I didn't want to say that I shagged whores so I ticked the box that said I'd slept with someone from a high risk area, and I was allowed it free.

Nice tip about the amazon box.  But if you're worried about HIV, then you're probably also exposed to other STDs which can be symptomless.  Just give a false name and your punting phone number to the GUM clinic and get a full screen.

Offline Alvin

The GUM offers the HIV test alongside the STD testing, each time I go to the GUM I get the whole lot done.  The home self test may be approved but unless you are only doing activities which only have the risk of HIV (ie sharing needles) then why not find the time to get yourself tested for the whole lot.  Help yourself, abyone you are seeing in civie life, any SP's plus punters.

Offline lostandfound

I asked about this test at the GUM because I thought they might use it on me, but they didn't, and took blood for an HIV test. They said I was low risk for HIV and there is a risk of the quick test showing a false positive. Irrespective, I agree with other posters, I would prefer to go see the professionals at the GUM clinic.
