I guess they feel safer.

One woman that I knew used to tell me that her partner knew all about it, and that he was ok with her seeing men while he was in the house. Then she stopped giving me OWO, and said "but on this occasion that the new lodger in the next room was unaware."

She showed me out quietly past the door.
