It was something an anthropologist showed me. She was doing a PhD on domestication of wild animals at the time, particularly horses. It's a safety thing. Species that are vulnerable during sex evolve to become quicker because they are more likely to be attacked and killed if they are not, and would be de-selected. Since humans evolved into social groups, that pressure has eased but it's interesting that they are still considered intrinsically quick.

Are you sure she was an anthropologist? They study humans I thought, not the comparative sexual habits of various different animals, but I may be wrong. I am not sure how you would go about finding a "wild" human as was mentioned earlier.

When saying that humans have evolved to bonk as quickly as possible it should not be forgotten that they are one of the very few species who have evolved to bonk for pleasure rather than merely for procreation. This may be to maintain a bond between a man and woman so that the burden of child rearing, which takes an enormous length of time compared to most other species, is shared. Is it good control or insensitivity? I do wonder. Part of the experience for me is how it takes you over and the intensity of it.
