“Text field empty”

Sometimes when I preview a post (surely a good example to set for those of us less than perfect) I get a message up saying there’s no text and the text box with its contents assumes a red outline. This seems to happen only when quoting a previous post with my reply and not all the time.

Funny thing is, although it won’t allow a preview, it will let me go ahead and post. Weird!

usual disclaimer: Bit concerned if the question has been answered before. Is it something that needs to be squished in the quoted text or is it a bug?

ps it’s been said many times but worth repeating: this site, from its early inception, has come on in amazing leaps and bounds. Technically as well as efficiency and features (like the advanced search). We remember Nick as our early pioneer, and Adam who assisted him, yet now Head1, present Admin and all the Mods deserve the most magnificent standing ovation for the way the site has developed, innovated, matured, and progressed in a stable, harmoniously way. Three cheers lads!  :hi:

If you use the unicode emojis e.g. 🤖 this happens with the preview function sometimes.

I thought I'd tried deleting those but thanks for the head up.

Checking now, I'm not sure if the post I thought had successfully 'posted' instead of just not previewed has indeed posted as it's not visible. Will take screenshots or extra care next time if it happens, but will make sure all non-standard emojis removed first :-). Certainly worked here after I deleted your demo unicode.

I had this issue a few months back when I was trying to quote a few different quotes in the same reply, from memory it would preview with 2 quotes but once I added the 3rd and 4th it wouldn't preview but posted correctly

Same issue here when posting the last couple of reviews… I copy and paste from IOS notes, where I draft and edit the review, but when trying to preview it before hitting the post/submit button, it errors with the “text field empty” error but still lets me post it.

This only seems to happen when pasting info that’s longer than a line or two - when pasting just a few words, it previews okay.

There are no emojis, but there is the hyperlink tonthe SP’s profile.

This is a forum issue so I'll move it to the dedicated thread.

To answer your question if it's a communal connection it might be blocking adult sites, just keep using the ones you have been.

Offline Marmalade

I really ought to know this but how do you index reviews? Someone once said I didn't index but I've no idea how. Used to be able to see them by clicking on the profile links but that doesn't seem to be working either for me at the moment. Not sure if that's a problem with my Mac but they don't come up on indexed reviews for a particular p4p either. I'm at the back of the class these days! Tips appreciated.

Good luck trying to index, you need to be very quick on the draw, there's a certain little bird that'll beat you to it 9 times out of 10 🐦 He's more of a forum legend than helper 🙇‍♂️

Not a serious one but a bit of a glitch.

In the main screen, the Last Post in ‘UKPunting’ shows a title of ‘HUGE membership pric…’
Posted @ 7:30:39 by Keislowski.

Whereas the post is actually in the seeking.com open thread.

That's a feature, not a bug.

To reproduce, click Quote, copy the text, but don't hit the Post button. Paste it in a response to any thread you like.

Thanks, but the next post on the thread by another poster was similarly named in the home page.

Neither are quoting from other threads, apols if I’m being slow.

This thread https://www.ukpunting.com/index.php?topic=244630.4450 is in the Ukpunting section -

So isn't it working as expected?

No it’s showing new posts with the thread title incorrect.

Appreciate your input.  It’s not a serious problem but I know from my limited IT experience that from little glitches mighty glitch trees grow!

Any chance we can fix this problem with the rating counts for SPs where the review ratings were corrected for whatever reason and the tallies don't update?

Query rather than quibble but why do some UKP profiles not show their review tally beside their posts in the forums?

Doesn't seem to be related to whether member is online or offline as plenty of other profiles show tallies regardless.

paul90 shows as a "guest" on some posts i.e. his profile has been purged / deleted, probably after a ban.
Oldadmin did this to most banned accounts just before he left - supposedly so they could sign up again with the same name with a clean record
One of the things it does is break the links between reviews and authors
I suspect paul90 was banned, purged and then rejoined with the same name, which would leave the old reviews orphaned and not linked to the new account

"guest" status is nothing to do with being offline / online

Thanks for trying SB but if you go into Paul90's profile and click on "Show reviews" it brings up a listing with multiple reviews.  The tally should at least count those even if he has "lost" others from the past.

I'd guess having two accounts with the same user name is causing data to be pulled from the wrong location
compare

I think the tally is being drawn from the original paul90 data, not the new account

As they didn't go through the automated system it's like they don't exist, ghosts
This may be fixable .........

Increase the post editing time limit to 24 hours

Long standing members like myself should not have PM limits like this ---> You have reached the anti-spam limit of 1 members you can contact per 12 hours. Try again later.

Can't see that happening, 24 hours is enough time for the SP to harass the poster to change things.

Write you review out and save it in a word document, email or notepad then post it when you are happy with it that way there is no editing time limit.

The time to edit works well and it is there to avoid members being influenced by prossies.

Make it 24 hours and we might as well let SPs come on and edit their own.

Like I keep saying every time this comes up, save the review and edit as much as you want and post when happy with it.

I do agree there should not be any extended time to edit reviews. A reviewer could always post an 'addendum' in the same thread but I think most of us do a draft first.
The only time I notice the edit thing is when making a quick post in discussion or off-topic and notice a stupid spellchecker correction. Always time to fix those but it does produce the 'last edited' note if one is not super quick which looks a bit embarrassing or messy -- hardly a big reason to alter the time limit though.

Can you make changes to my recent review as I accidently pressed "post" instead of "preview"

Can change this in the neutral section ---- Apartment is not in a descreet apartment  ---- Apartment is not in a discreet location

Can you change this in the negative section ---- Prohibitive price for a lack of GFE ----- Prohibitive price

Can you change this in the negative section ---- The room looked apartment ----- The room looked like a cheap airbnb apartment

Can you change this in the negative section ---- I had to wait for the guy in the apartment to leave the bathroom so I can use it  ----- Just remove the comma for me for clarity

Can you add on the negative ---- There was someone else in the apartment

You are missing the point, we aren't secretaries just here to edit your reviews, we are moderators, here to ensure the site is run as it should be.

I have told you what to do but I will tell you again, write your review on a word document, notepad, an email to yourself or anywhere you can store it then you have up to 6 months to edit it before posting.

We are not going to edit anything you have posted, it's up to you to make sure you are happy with it first time round.

if its a spelling mistake or something similar and you’re out of time to edit then who cares, literally a minor issue

if it is a change due to pressure from the prossie then grow a set, tell her fuck off and stand by your original words
