Sightseeing in Athens - surprisingly limited.  And the Acropolis museum is one long moan at us Brits for keeping the Elgin marbles.

Punting in Athens - I can see the positives in punting here.  It’s cheap and there is a lot of provision in a very small geographical area.  But the studio/walk up scene is a bit too down market for me.  Back home, I like sharking around Warwick Avenue, Pimlico, Islington etc, tracking down my next punt.  Here it’s hot, and the streets are decrepit and full of rubbish and drug addicts.  I do like the ritual of a London punt – pre and post punt refreshments, for example – whereas Athens does feel distinctly third world.  Greece is clearly still reeling from the financial crisis, and the bits of Athens where the punting action happens are at the bottom of a pretty crappy pile.  Addicts injecting on every corner doesn’t exactly fill this punter with confidence.  And I have learnt that queuing behind a Greek soldier to fuck a prostitute is not really my bag.  This meant I did less budget shagging than I had planned.

Putting that to one side, these are my thoughts to add to the other recent UKP threads about this:

For sure, embrace the idea of walking away if you don’t like what is on offer.  Consequently, you must be ready to physically pound the streets.  I can imagine punting would be hellish in full summer sun – I was lucky that it rained on and off for my two days.  The metro and bus system are pretty good, and very cheap, when you get the hang of them.

And be prepared for it to be busy.  Several times I went to duck into a Studio, and someone got in directly in front of me.  I even tried early morning, which was no better, tbh.  Greek blokes clearly love PFP.

I didn't find it easy to pre-book at the budget end.  I’m into slim, young girls, anything bigger or older just doesn’t do it for me, so pre-booking is helpful.  A few websites will indicate very efficiently who is working in the studios at any one time, but you can’t seem to pre-book if you don’t speak Greek.

Everyone seemed very friendly.  All the old dears and old blokes who seem to run the ‘front of house’.  Very little English spoken.

Fylis street is quite an experience in the evening.  The walk ups are very well lit, in pinky/blue light.  Lots of blokes walking in and out of the rooms.  Some police presence.  You can see in some of them and can even catch a glimpse of the girls from the road.  The way to do it is just walk in, assess what is on offer, and be ready to make a quick decision.

The Studios seem actually very similar to the walk ups, although I thought they were geared up for the longer punts.  They have a web presence, I guess.  I tried calling a couple on landlines to check who was working - no response to a Greek salutation and then a simple question in English, or just no response.  No mobile numbers for WhatsApp that I could find.

I didn’t try Metaxourgeio walk ups as my reading prior suggested this is proper budget punting.

As for actual punts:

I decided to see this girl: External Link/Members Only.  I had to go back to the Studio a couple of times until she was free.  I was buzzed into a big dark waiting area with sofas.  Not a soul in it for what seemed like an age.  Odd.  Then two girls came out to meet me – the very busty Eva and a thinner Spanish/EE girl, who I ended up choosing.  I was showed by the madam to another very dark room, where again I waited for an age.  There was a shower but it was broken/taped closed.  I regret not choosing Eva, as the Spanish girl was a bit of a dud.  The punt cost me 30 euros – I was expecting to pay 50.  With hindsight, I should have gone for both girls, which I was offered.

I did crack at one-point late evening after a lot of wandering about, and paid 120 euros to fuck this dirty old man’s dream:  External Link/Members Only  She had those classic Ukrainian sex worker skills, and the body and looks to go with them.  In a hotel south of the Acropolis.  All arranged via Whatsap at very short notice with the agency – super helpful.  I told her if she came to work in London, she would make a fortune.

Finally, I fucked a pretty young EE girl in Fylis 65 for 20 euros.  Not a great experience – but at least I’ve done it.

I stayed near Omonia - good for Studios, and getting into the Metaxourgeio and Fylis walk up areas.

I think your review of Athens as a city is a little harsh. Plenty of beautiful, upmarket neighbourhoods and interesting locations in the centre and beyond. If you drove for an hour you could have visited the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion, and witnessed a top 3 sunset of your life.

As a city, it's bouncing back from the financial crisis with massive regeneration and development particularly at the location of the old airport where a new mega city is being built. I think it will feature the biggest outdoor park in Europe, casinos, shopping malls, 10,000 new homes, etc. Won't be done for a few years still, but Athens is definitely on the up and up.

The walk up/studio locations are grim though, I agree. Still some gems to be found though if you put in the effort, though that can be a slog in the Peak summer heat

I second this, lot of variety in Athens when it comes to tourism, sometimes vastly different neighbourhoods right next to each other, there is a lot to explore.

And yeah I can see why the brothels around Fylis and Metaxourgeio aren't for everyone but I'm a big fan, there is nowhere else like it, I'm heading back next month. Could not be arsed going round the brothels in 30 degree heat though, IMO October and April are the best months in Greece for climate whilst still being busy enough. For anyone planning to visit I'd recommend having a look through the brothel reviews on bourdela.com, google translate does a pretty good job. Make a few notes on which girls are getting a lot of attention and positive reviews before you go.

Cheers, gents.

Bourdela.com is certainly the key on line resource for the Athens punter.

With regard to the tourism offer, I still remain personally surprised at how limited Athens was/is in this regard, compared to other Mediterranean cities like Barcelona, Naples, even Palermo and Malaga.  Let alone the big guns like Rome/Venice/Istanbul.  I assumed that all the interesting buildings got knocked down by earthquakes/nazis etc, and so it seems:

But for sure the city centre has a great buzz, lots of good food, and people are really friendly.

Going Athens next month and reading through these reviews…

Based on your experiences in Athens …

… do you think staying at an apartment is worth it (for outcalls) .. or staying at a nice hotel and visiting studios /walk ups more than sufficient ?

What HighlyMotivated said. +1

The OP picked the one area of Athens city where you can see druggies (approx two streets on one side of the square) and says they’re ‘on every street’ which they’re not. Same with rubbish — and it’s the same in most big cities if you pick the scruffiest area. Basically the roughest corner of Omonia and around Victoria(Fylis) at certain times.

He picks the Acropolis Museum rather than the big National one and complains (Acropoli Museum is quite technical and just about the Acropoli, nothing else, so it would not surprise me if they are making a case about the Marbles).

There are nice doors to be had in Fylis and quite posh studios if you head over to Kerameikos. Their are pristine, picture-book areas to stay like Plaka. There are so many things to see, i could keep typing for an hour. It’s sad that the OP didn’t have a great time overall but maybe it’s a warning to people to for a bit of research on here, read the Wiki, or just ask.

Athens has extremes of temperature and it is worth planning for that. For summer, a room that has a balcony and a bath (there are one or two) is nice, and even better a swimming pool on the roof that’s not too crowded.

I just accidentally deleted a long post with many details. Have a look at the wiki and consider which area you want to stay and will try to help.

I've booked right next to Omonia. my hotel pretty much faces it
I figured if I make rash decisions being both walking distance and next to Line 1 & 2 helps.

The wiki and the websites are useful but some of the info doesn't match up;
brothels;
metaxourgeio neighberhood (kolonou street) is the 'super cheap' brothels.
Fylis Street is the less cheap brothel area.

questions; some sites show the venues start from the southern point of fylis street and some show that they start a further 200-300 meters up?
are the southern ones just not on some maps or are they not government mandated ones?

I also saw a cluster 5 minutes walk east of Larissa station on Liosion road - which ones are these???

Studios; i pinned Ioannina 5, Konstantinoupoleos ones, Kassandra on sites and maps. They are all close to a metro station so easy access.

Any you recommend that are walking distance from Omonia or a metro station?

Or are there any brilliant ones worth talking a taxi for?

Could you explain why you haven’t contributed any reviews in almost 5 years of membership please?
I see you’ve frequently logged on (90+) in the last year, so assuming your active.

My absolute favourite thing on here is a long term leech popping up hunting for intel and a mod appearing and questioning why they never contribute back. Always great fun.

Kolonou and Iasonos are the cheap 10 euro punts, however many of the houses seem to be locked up these days. Mostly munters but still a gem or 2 to be found if you have the time to look (note some younger better looking girls will ask for 15 or 20)

Try Lelas35 which is on Lelas Karagiannis Street in Kypseli. Think it's 80 for 30 mins and 120 for an hour, something like that. Can check out the girls/schedules here External Link/Members Only

Sounds like you went from 10euro punt straight to 80euro punt and skipped everything in between !
20euro brothels and 50 euro studios not worth it for you?

Haven't sampled the 50 euro studios, the 20 euro ones on Fylis and thereabouts are definitely worth checking out with much higher quality girls than the 10 euro ones

The Fylis ones are also closer together and easier to keep track of and plenty of gems in the rough. The 10E are more for fun IMO, which is also good and no need to take them too seriously. Studios vary an awful lot, even similar-priced ones. Sometimes I think it’s just paying for ‘fancier sheets’. If you want to treat yourself, ‘Nuru Massage’ is usually good, full water bed and nuru gel, bit it’s not very central (suggest Uber there, bus back).

Thanks for all the info chaps !

I saw a studio advert 2-3 weeks ago where they were advertising a shisha package deal .
But I can’t find it now to save my life .
Anyone know what I’m talking about or did I imagine it ?!

Inspired by your post, I'm considering doing a similar trip this summer.

I want to try Filis, the studios, and also some of these beautiful escorts from an agency.

I'm confused about the hotels though.

As far as I can make out, escorts in Athens dont do incalls, only outcalls. So either I need to stay in a hotel that's escort friendly, or I hire a room in one for a few hours? Not speaking Greek, that seems very complicated to organise, and maybe expensive?

Can I ask what you did? Thanks in advance!

Offline puntmiester

Athens has a poverty /petty crime problem . Hotels often have security / checkpoint at the main entrance . I’m not sure if they kick up a fuss about escorts but the optics of it put me off , so I didn’t try to call one over .
An apartment via booking.com or Airbnb would probably be a better option .

The escorts via agency don’t seem cheaper then anywhere else in Europe - seems a waste when 20euro fylis is quite unique to Athens
