Finish several DIY and decorating endeavours that I've "completed" over past several years, y'know, finishing touches, final coats, fascias etc. Very strange how I can install a bathroom suite but never get round to putting a proper pull-cord light switch up at the end? I'm deffo doing it THIS year.

I agree. But new year's offers a good opportunity to carry that extra motivation, optimistism and energy that some people may need to get started with new goals in life. Once they start they can then fulfil them. It getting started that seems to be the most difficult to alot of people. New years give them people the opportunity for them to do it. Some people start big goals and dreams when they turn a big birthday like 30 or 50 and it's the same thing about new years.
