Craigslist stopped escort ads because of political pressure, Backpage is a good alternative. I found the best source in the SF area is External Link/Members Only . Ads, forums, and reviews -- it's not that obvious, but if you contribute reviews you get access to the full review, but the summaries are usually pretty useful. Only warning is that there's a bit of "grade inflation" with regard to looks.

Prices are definitely higher than London, but not insanely so.

Just to update people on how this went... (and how it's going now) ... I've been in San Francisco for 2 weeks now and have 2 more weeks here before returning to the UK...

I've no idea what the price would've been ... the typical "default" rate for girls here seems to be around $300 for the first hour (!!) but "street girls" are, according to the net, more like $150 per hour. As far as I can tell, it will work for any major U.S. city, Canada, and a bit of Mexico too.  MyRedBook is good for the California and Nevada area, but mostly for Sacramento where it started.  The further away from Sacramento you get, and the less populated the area, the less effective MyRedBook will be.  That might exclude Las Vegas, Nevada though seeing as how a lot of girls tend to travel on a circuit that goes through there.
