That's correct. The term "expunge" is really an Americanism. We don't use it in E & W that much. Generally it's used if someone asks the police to remove a simple caution from their criminal record and the chief constable agrees. Usually that happens because the person was too young to receive a caution, the offence doesn't exist anymore or the person didn't admit guilt etc etc
Simple cautions are automatically spent under the Rehabilition of Offenders Act 1974 (as amended). Conditional cautions are spent after 3 months. They will, however, remain on your criminal record until your 100th birthday.
CRB checks (both standard and enhanced) will reveal all cautions and convictions - spent and unspent.
Because her
sentence was more than 30 months, her conviction will never be spent.
