Sometime ago someone asked why a WG appeared in there list of suggested friends.

They put it down to being a member of the same gym or was it a yoga class, anyway they both LIKED the same page.

But, if that was the case then wouldn't it show everyone who like that page???

I was thinking about this, no idea why.. I wondered maybe it uses location services ?? You spend an hour or so with a WG and you both like the same page so Facebook suggests you should be friends.

Then I read this

External Link/Members Only

I found other site saying it was denied. Maybe denied as not using it on it's own but could be used to support other clues of possible friendship.

So, as well as punting phone turn of location services on your main phone if you take it with you. But remember WiFi hot spots are also used to approximate locations based on the fact that someone could have been near the same hotspot with GPS on. I would say turn off location services would stop this but just turning of GPS ( if you have this option ) could cause location services to fail back to less accurate methods such as known hot spots.

It's big business in terms of collecting and selling data, your phone does it's best to know what you do and Facebook will try to work with this feature.

Can you think of any reason how the connection was made?

I too saw Anikasecret 1 or 2 years ago and I'm 99% sure there isn't any way possible that FB could connect us, but FB is proving more and more fucking invasive!  :scare:

I didn't use a punting phone, so that could be it - but it's taken them a long time to make the connection.

A couple of months ago I was researching a trip to Thailand online and suddenly I had a pile of Thai girls appearing in my suggested friends list.

I don't know how it works, but I know enough to think it's insidious, almost unavoidable, and I bloody hate it. I assume it knows all my browsing history and all my phone calls and texts and my address book.

It repeatedly suggests people that I have no idea who they are or what connection they have - but they have some weird shit going on and they'll fuck you sooner or later. I'm single, so I'm not worried about my OH but....

I've deleted my facebook, instagram & whatsapp. I will delete anything else that Facebook buys.

As I said before, I forgot to take my punting phone and resorted to using my I phone, some time later Facebook flagged up her number as some I might want as a friend. Following that link I was able to view the girls page with all her details and home town. The only way Face book could think we might like to be friends is through our phone numbers, no other way that I can see.

Shit......Google maps just kicked in on my Android phone and started asking me to rate a whole bunch of places, including just about all the supermarkets I've visited in the last couple of months, plus most of the Thai and Chinese massage parlours in Blackpool.
The bastards know exactly where I've been. I don't use that phone for punting, but usually have it with me in case of an urgent business call. I'm going to have to rethink that one......maybe log it into a different Google account in a fake name

They've tracked me through the satnav system on the phone - its possible you've (Hungarian Lover) been tracked in the same way and the system has noticed that your and her phones were in the same premises together...
some of the questions I just got asked were "does Shenjon massage have a disabled entrance" "does it have a rest room" "does it offer Thai massage" "does it have public wifi"........with similar for Thai Orchid and some of the others

Google maps may be a fantastic satnav but yes it is amazingly invasive how it knows everywhere you've been. Fortunately my partner would never be able to nor express any desire to go through my place history with a time history but yes, it would be a big problem for anyone whose partner would. I once went through it all half-drunk and through fuck me, it remember my punt history far better than I do!

What Facebook also does if you let it is have access to your phone contacts.
So lets say you see a WG and give her your number. She keeps it in her contacts and it is uploaded to Facebook. Or she may delete it and you may upload it.

Punting phone is safer but if you have a contract then can still be traced I think.

Yeah, there's a thing called Timeline associated with Google Maps. Best to go into your settings and disable it if you're slinking off punting.

FaceBook will suggest friends based upon your contact list and phonebook; I've had it suggest a few wgs and girls from bars with whom I've swapped numbers but not names. It can be disabled by digging through the privacy options, but the safest thing is to use a punting phone which does not have FB enabled.

I have no clue, I'm concerned as well. I've only called her on the number she put up on AW and spoken to her twice - once to arrange the punt and once to be given the flat address when I arrived, as I said, that was quite a while ago and it has only just now suggested her as a friend

I have a friend who has been away skiing in Norway and emailed me from there. Today I got adverts on Facebook for the resort she was staying in. Facebook must read emails.

What the actual fuck!

Offline yorkshirepunter3333

It reads your contact list. But did your phone / email app automaticity add the sender as a contact if you replied or did there email app add you? Or maybe they simply added you as a contact. That's how people from emails get in.

As for the WG, must be location services, you are with the WG for sometime, you both have location services on, Facebook knows that you have been in the same place for sometime so it matches you up.

She was already a contact, but not a Facebook friend. So Facebook has either read the email which says where she was and picked out the location or, I guess more likely, seen where she was from location services and then added adverts to the resort to the feeds of all the Facebook accounts of her contacts - not just her Facebook friends

That's fucked up

Offline Silver Birch

Open Google Maps on your phone
Click the top menu button to the left of "search here"
Click My Timeline, and turn it off

Offline yorkshirepunter3333

She was already a contact

Facebook will read your contacts but not your email, if will see and advert in your email and see the same in Facebook this is due to them sharing the same ad provider not them both reading your email, but some email providers will scan your email and give you ads based on that (I think gmail does this), these will probs also show in Facebook (so, I suppose that's indirectly using the email content) . I don't see how they make money from this... I buy a toaster and then for weeks I see my NEW toaster not only in my kitchen making toast I see it on Facebook , in my web based email reader and other websites that use the SAME AD SOURCE. I HAVE BOUGHT THE TOASTER WHY KEEP SELLING ME IT  :scare: :dash:

As for ads, that's normally done with with cookies even if  you delete the cookies they can use other tricks to identify you. (google forever cookie and browser fingerprint)

* Use a Punt Phone
* Always use incognito (or private browsing on Edge / IE) for ANYTHING related to punting, eg google maps, search in general, ukpunting , aw etc.
* If you carry your phone with you, turn of location services when  you leave the house for a punt.

If you use WhatsApp  use a different number as this will also share things with Facebook, I turned of the Facebook share thing on the DAY it was released and I we presented with friend suggestions based on my WhatsApp usage (not punting WhatsApp) Also, just dont put ANY details in Facebook , use an email that is just used for Facebook (I dont do this, but it will make you more disconnected, and less of a profit to Facebook) , dont give it your mobile any details you give to Facebook is used as a point to draw connections this will just grow over time.

When you install the Facebook app on your phone, if you look carefully, it is frightening what permissions you are agreeing to. I was refusing to add Messenger because of this until I realised that a FB app had done this already on an auto update.  :scare:

My punting phone has no connection to the Internet so I cannot see how FB could make a link, but of course I cannot do a search on the number to see if there is any trace, because I would be creating exactly that.

Offline Turtle1

One way FB connects people is by their phone numbers. Yes FB goes through your contacts and shows people who have an account as people you may know.

Hence y using punting phones to ring WG's is a must

Thanks for the advice SB
I just did that out of interest and found people and addresses on there that I haven't seen in over 25 years!  It must be because they were in my Gmail contact address list which I have never updated.  Also one person who I definitely DON'T want showing up!  I'm obviously too old to own a smart phone.

Yes it's true, I remember once I arranged a punt with a WG, we sent a few whatsapps, and  out of curiosity I typed her number into Facebook and her real profile came up obviously with her real name and photos. I was amazed at how easy it was, and how careless she'd been.

I think what you'll find is she's probably put your number into Facebook search. If she's then tried to look at your profile Facebook will assume you know each other. You'll then get her coming up as a friend suggestion.

I removed my phone number from Facebook as I'd had this exact scenario happen on numerous occasions.

Nokia 3310 making a comeback...most likely due to high demand from the punting community.

It's not specifically on topic but I signed up to twitter a while back with a made up persona so I could follow some porn-type tweeters.
I forget exactly what happened and how but my account was suggested to a work colleague on my phone without my permission.
I have never been back on there since.
These media apps are definitely insidious and I can see why so many here wisely advise the use of a punting phone.

..would it be possible for FB to realise your oh9nes have been sat next to each other for an hour or so in the same "plotted" location?  when ur banging away
