Alprostadil 3 mg/g cream is recommended as an alternative to transurethral and intracavernosal
alprostadil or vacuum pump devices, for patients with erectile dysfunction in whom at least 2
types of phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitor treatments have failed (with at least 8 tablets
consumed, before deciding failure of treatment, for each PDE5i trialled) or in whom there is an
intolerance or contraindication to PDE5 inhibitors.
GREEN Restricted
Alprostadil 3 mg/g cream is suitable for initiation and ongoing prescribing in primary care where
patients with erectile dysfunction have an intolerance or contraindication to PDE5 inhibitors.
AMBER Level 0
Alprostadil 3 mg/g cream is suitable for prescribing in primary care following recommendation or
initiation by a specialist for patients with erectile dysfunction who have experienced treatment
failure with at least 2 types of PDE5 inhibitors.
