Author Topic: Google Reverse Image Search - How to.  (Read 19002 times)

Offline skittish

It seems there are still some members that do not know how to do a 'Google Reverse Image Search' (GRIS) So here is my step by step guide.

For the purposes of sites like 'Adultwork' that protect images by disabling the 'Right Click' function you will first need to add an extension to your browser.

For Chrome browser use this extension External Link/Members Only

Once you have added this extension choose a photo from an Adultwork gallery and right click. You'll get this pop up message.

Hidden Image/Members Only

Click OK, the following pop up appears. So now we need to copy the image URL. Click 'copy image url' it's now saved to your clipboard.

Hidden Image/Members Only

Now goto External Link/Members Only
click on the camera icon.

Hidden Image/Members Only

This search box appears, so we now paste the image url into the search box. Right click>paste or ctrl+v.

Hidden Image/Members Only

click the search by image button and you're done.

Yes there are plenty of variations so anybody please feel free to add them to this thread. Tineye is good but I believe Google has much larger search parameters.

I can't help but feel sooner or later AW will block Google Image's IP address to prevent this.

I tend to save the image locally on my hard drive, then load images.google, com, then drag the image from a file manager app and drop it on to the google web page.

Like you said, there's many different ways of doing it.

Instead of clicking 'copy image url' click 'save image as' you'll still need the chrome extension to do this.

Thanks Skittish, I am one of the dull ones I'm afraid. Did you have to use that girl in your demo though? - I am finding it difficult to concentrate, I can't stop staring at her tits!  :D

I will give it another go later  :hi:

In Chome you can open a google image tab

External Link/Members Only

Open a separate window with the image without filling the whole screen

Hold down the left mouse key over the image and drag the image into the google search box.

No need for any extensions.

You'll want to ensure you've turned off safe search in Google to get anywhere with this, so that it doesn't filter explicit images.

There are extensions for tineye and GRIS for firefox and chrome that get around the copying and pasting bits, you just right click and search directly on the image.

This works on my Chromebook but just tried it on my PC and didn't work.

Yes as you can see I have them too and generally use that method myself. I wasn't sure if that extension was available for other browsers so my pictorial was assist those new to GRIS and is transferable across browsers. Some good tips and info is coming to light.  :drinks:

Using FireFox, right click on the white bit of the image popup between the top of the image and the frame of the popup. You have to be quite precise.

Click on 'View Page Info'
Click on 'Media' icon
Click on 'Save As..'

All done without needing any extensions. Works on all pages including gallery and private gallery

Offline Stiltskin

I can do this in 2 clicks using Firefox and a plugin called Search by Image for Google.

Right click an image and select 'Search image on Google' brings up a new tab with the image search results.
External Link/Members Only

Funny thing is, Right click has stopped working for me on AW's full sized images, but it still works for the gallery thumbnails.

I don't use chrome - can it be done from Internet Explorer on a PC?

Also, I do most of my punting surfing from my phone - can it be done from an Android o/s?

Advice much appreciated, and thanks to Skittish!

Sorry I don't know if there's a way of doing it from an Android o/s.

As for IE you used to be able to disable active scripting in internet options but that doesn't seem to help anymore, hopefully someone will have a solution?

Just wanted to make a quick post about AW particularly, but it probably works elsewhere. There's a slightly easier way to get these saved in Google Chrome that doesn't require extensions and what-not.

-Open the full size photo you want, and right click somewhere in the white border.
-Select "inspect element."
-This opens a small window in the foreground, so click the magnifying glass at the bottom and then hover over the image in the original window, it should go blue. Click it.
-This brings up the URL of the image in the "inspect element" window which you can click, and that brings up the image.
-Right click it, open the image in a new tab, then just save it.

This might sound a little long-winded as an explanation, but it's super quick and easy once you get in a rhythm. If you keep the "inspect element" window open, you don't have to click the magnifying glass each time, too.

Great write up, can't seem to get thus to work via iPad though, even using the awful chrome ( :vomit:)

I hope there's a proper app for it somewhere though..

No longer active on AW went by the name 'Ayana Sexstar', I deliberately chose her as there was a number of GRIS hits so she made a good example.

In Chrome on iPad you can just hold your finger on the image for a second and it'll come up with an option to save it.

Did not know you could run it on a iPad is it app download

Ah, now that is true. Same on the iphone. It is generally hard to upload pictures off a device running ios I find.

If you paste the image url in the basic google search bar it should return this message.

For matching images, try search by image

Just click on the search by image

Great, useful piece of information here and it was so easy to download the Chrome extension.  It works a treat but one question - am I doing something wrong or does anyone else find that when they paste in the URL for a girl's image most of Google's "matches" are for men??!?

It works even in the case when other browsers find it difficult to isolate an image on the webpage.

For example on External Link/Members Only Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer don't isolate the images but Chrome does, mentioned here.

Err, guys

When I right click on an image the pop-up box I get does NOT include the option to "search Google for this image".  All the rest of the options are shown.

Have I "missed" enabling some function within Chrome?

In answer to Chicken Commando and galinsoga.
I have tried out a few things including checking Google Chrome on a fresh install and it works without any settings or tweaking that is on Windows XP Operating System.

It could be the particular image you are testing with.
Try reverse searching Chicken Commandos avatar below that works fine with me.

Hidden Image/Members Only

if that doesn't work then then I suggest the best alternative is to use Mozilla Firefox and External Link/Members Only which I normally do.

Or try External Link/Members Only

Further Info in this thread.

If you're using a mac with Safari the following extension:

External Link/Members Only

called 'backtrack' will allow you to right click and automatically image search google, tin eye, bing and KamaDecay/Reddit with one click.

To disable the right click security settings you can also left click the image, and while holding the left button down, drag the image to a new tab/window.

(you need to go into the menu: Safari->Preferences->Extensions->BackTrack to select the searches you want to use for BackTrack)

Hopefully that makes things easier for some and stops you having to download any AW content or have AW links in your copy/paste history.

:)

Offline davegreen1961

You can also do an image search by right clicking the image and 'search google for this image'
This only works from the results of a search screen or hot list, not once you have opened an individual page, so I guess you can only search the one image for the person.

Hi,

I know this is an old post but Windows 7 users can use the Snip Toop to get ANY image - protected or otherwise - into their clipboards.

Google "Windows 7 Snip" for details.

Sorry,

Although correct, it does sound painful ;-(.
